Toys – auction at the Waldorf Astoria in New York on 20.11.2010
On page 30 of the catalogue I found a „Kestner 208“, produced around 1908. This doll was imprinted in my head.
As it is more and more difficult to get such molds I needed spezial help.
It was once more Ute who helped me to obtain the right mold.
In her stock – ready to be disposed – she found the right old form in the cellar.
The Kestner 208 in such a size is a character doll of scarcity value. The marking is „K. made in Germany 14, 208“.
She is the biggest character doll of Kestner. Her dignified molded face and her astonishing glance of the painted eyes have inspired me to assign her to my doll of the year 2012.
The amizing pictures in the catalogue of Theriaults helped me a lot to reproduce a perfect Kestner 208.
Unfortunatly there is nearly no literatur about this doll. The superfine painting was a big challenge. It has to be perfect and therefor require full concentration and high competence.
The doll has wonderful eyebrows, exact „Intaglio eyes“ with fine reddish lashes and a dreamy mouth.
She is dressed with an enchanting dress of finest striped taffety of silk, batiste and velvet, some borders of roses and silk ribbons.
As the original the doll wears on her right hand a golden bracelet, shoes of leather and a handmade small bag which is lined with the same material as the dress.
She has a perfect „Toddler-body“ of paper maché (thanks to Marlit and Gerd!).
